As farmers struggle to contain the fast spreading Lumpy Skin Disease, an infectious disease that has affected an estimated 19,000 cattle in the state, dairy unions fear milk shortages will disrupt market and hit consumers. According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, LSD is a viral vector-borne contagious pox disease seen in domestic cattle and the Asian water buffalo. The clinical features of the disease, as per a study published by researchers from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Shiraz University, Iran, include “fever, inappetence, nasal discharge, salivation and lachrymation, enlarged lymph nodes, loss of body weight and sometimes death”.
